EDD in the Community
Published: September 23, 2025
We know that when people need support, timing and trust matter. That’s why in 2025, we’re going even deeper into our communities to bring help, answers, and resources directly to the people who need them, right where they are.
We’ve learned a lot through community outreach over the last few years. This year, we’re not just showing up. We’re staying connected. We’re partnering with local leaders, community groups, churches, and organizations that people already know and trust. Together, we’re building long-term relationships that help break down barriers and make it easier for all Californians to access information on unemployment, disability, and Paid Family Leave benefits as well as payroll taxes, and job support.
A Summer of Community Celebrations
As the temperatures began to climb, our teams took part in two vibrant Cinco de Mayo celebrations in Southern California.
At the Pico Rivera Sports Arena, we connected with an audience of more than 15,000 families who came to enjoy food, music, and art — and many left with some valuable information about EDD services, too. Many were surprised to learn we offer much more than unemployment benefits. We answered questions about disability benefits, how to apply for Paid Family Leave, navigating identify verification, and how to tell if you're an employee or an independent contractor.
On the same day, we were also at Olvera Street in Los Angeles, where thousands gathered to celebrate. Thanks to our partnership with La Raza Radio, we connected with many of the event’s visitors. They appreciated receiving printed materials and phone numbers — resources that don’t require a computer or smartphone. We helped people understand benefits, use tools like the Money Network app, and feel more confident about protecting their personal information.

In June, our teams joined Juneteenth celebrations in Sacramento, Rialto, Perris, and Oceanside. These events brought more than 10,000 people together to honor Black history, freedom, and culture. Between music, food, and family activities, our staff connected with hundreds of attendees! Ranging from offering printed resources and answering questions, we shared important information about jobs, benefits, and more.
“We’re grateful for your partnership and support in bringing both events to life.” - Angela Gold, Riverside County Black Chamber of Commerce, on EDD supporting two of the Juneteenth events in Southern California
By joining California’s diverse celebrations, we’re not just providing information. We’re building trust. We’re showing up for communities that have often faced barriers when trying to access government services. We see you. We’re here to help.
